OCEANOGRAPHIC MUSEUM OF MONACO

musee oceanographique

At first sight, you won’t believe it’s a museum.
This beautiful building built with the famous white stone of La Turbie, overlooks the sea 85 meters below.
The museum was inaugurated in 1910 by Prince Albert Ist , a great explorer and lover of the marine world.
Later, it has been under the direction of Captain Cousteau from 1957 to 1989.
Oceanographic Museum is one of the most important aquariums in Europe.

It hosts in 90 basins thousand of fish species who evolve over the windows.
Don’t miss the ” shark lagoon” , you will be mesmerized!
You will find plenty of dogfishes on the first floor behind a touch basin.
The second floor is a real cabinet of curiosities: measuring instruments, maps, specimens in jars, models of boats and skeletons of animals hovering above our heads …
On the terrace, a restaurant-bar offers a vertiginous panorama and a beautiful view on Monaco and the coast.
