Getting to St. Maarten / St. Martin with a ferry

Ferry and charter boats services are available from St. Barth, Anguilla, and Saba to St. Martin. Thus, if you decide to take a ferry to travel from an island to St. Martin / St. Maarten, you should be aware that the can be rough sometimes.

Getting to St. Maarten / St. Martin: Entry and customs 

EU nationals getting to St. Maarten / St. Martin, whether it be on the french or dutch side, must be in possession of a valid passport. They do not need any visa. For US and Canadian nationals, a valid passport is necessary too, in addition to return ticket. Also, naturalized citizens must present an original naturalisation certificate with an identification photo. Travelers from other countries must be in possession of a valid passport and return ticket, and a visa according to their nationality.

Due to the absence of a border between the French and Dutch sides of the island, chances are you won’t realize you have crossed the French-Dutch border while getting around the island.
